i am studying art and there are a series of paintings known as "the deposition of christ". i would like to know exactly what this refers to. thanks.

I believe the deposition of Christ refers to his being taken off the cross after his crucifixion. I'm not sure, though; it's hard to find an exact definition of it.
Any other Catholics out there know for sure?
