Because he was never married in the church, it is possible that the church has never recognized that he ever got married. You should consult with your priest. However, if the marriage was recognized by the church, then I believe an annulment is possible if the two didn't have the intention, at the time of the marriage, to enter into one. Under the circumstances you listed, I believe he may qualify for an annulment. But again, consult with a qualified priest on this matter. If you have a local pastor you like, request a meeting and explain the circumstances. Bring your fiance so that he can fill in any of the blanks. Hope this helps.
