» Feature Writer Brian Tubbs - Rome v. Holy Land

If you were to ask the average Catholic where he/she would like to go in order to connect with and/or rejuvenate or inspire his/her faith, the answer would probably be Rome. Correct?

Yet, speaking as a non-Catholic Christian, I think most evangelicals would answer the Holy Land.

I don't mean this to sound like a "My denomination is better than yours" comment, but don't you think a trip to the Holy Land (to walk in the footsteps of Jesus) would be more inspirational - or at least should be more inspirational - than a trip to the Vatican?

Maybe I'm incorrect in my impression that Catholics prefer Rome to the Holy Land. If so.....please correct me. I am not making any accusations here. Just curious.

Thanks.

Sorry to have to say it but I think you are 100 percent wrong. Most Catholics know that the Holy Land is the place to be. Not to make light of this whole thing but that's where the big J actually walked, talked, slept and died. Having never been there myself, I can't even imagine the magnitude of walking in a place where Jesus walked. Of pilgrimages, I'd say that is the biggie. But as Catholics, pilgrimages are not limited to the Holy Land. They can include any place where miracles were performed or saints lived. And Rome is more than just about seeing where the Pope lives. Many holy relics are located there (yes I know and I don't want to get into the whole crusades thing right now-I'm too tired-lol). One of the locations is Saint Michael's grotto which we believe was carved out of stone by Michael himself.
I didn't mean to insinuate that Rome is where all Catholics aspire to visit, it's one of them perhaps, but we haven't lost site of THE PILGRIMAGE.

Me....wrong? That doesn't happen. Ever.

:)

Seriously...my post wasn't an argument or accusation or anything. It was an impression that I was putting out there. So, thank you for enlightening me.

Hey, no problem. I was hoping I didn't scare you off with my response. I thought that maybe by writing about Rome I accidently perpetuated a stereotype about Catholics. Glad I didn't and please keep writing!
