I would like to learn more about the underlying reasons for some of the Church's teachings on issues that I don't see as being based on biblical teachings, i.e. the seven deadly sins, women being barred from ministering to people, the Church's stand on birth control, confessing to a priest instead of praying directly to God, etc. Where did the idea of praying to Mary or a saint for help start and doesn't that violate the first Commandment ("Thou shalt have no other gods but me.")?
