- ...of the Catholic Church?
In response to ...of the Catholic Church? posted by LauriePK: . I was a Cradle Catholic too - raised by devout tithing parents. Back in the day, Mass was said and sung in Latin - with the priest's back to us. All women and girls were required to wear dresses and head coverings (just to give you a timeline). . As a parochial school student, I attended Mass every day with my class (confession on Friday), and then Sunday Mass with my parents. We used missals to follow along - reading and reciting the responses and prayers, and singing the hymn selected for that day. . Mass was much like watching a foreign movie and reading subtitles. Imagine seeing the same movie six times a week for years! You know it all by heart - no reading required. Mass was nothing more than a mandatory rote exercise - like daily tooth brushing. . Sure, religious tradition is comfortable and secure -- and boring. If that's what folks want from their religion, more power to em.
