My hubby waas raised in a Catholic home, and I find their services ritualistic and exclusionary. We married in his Catholic church, and I didn't really care one way or another as long it was a Godly ceremony, but we now attend a Community Church.

I, too, find that the Catholic services leave me empty -- but I think the ritualism comforts people. The rules and traditions rovide structure, which may make people feel secure.
