I went to a celebration supper last night for Alpha, a 10-week course that introduces people to Christianity and answers tough questions. You’ll see more on the Alpha program in an article I’ll write. But I wanted to write about what struck me as I listened to people talking about their experience. Of course there were people who had never really been to church etc. That was a great, welcoming experience for them. But what I thought was most applicable to me (of course from a purely selfish, what can I get out of this attitude) were the words spoken by Catholics who also attended the program.
They spoke about being woken up. They used words like, alive and vital and spirituality. Having attended the same church for quote a while, I recognized these folks as regulars at Mass. Isn’t it great that you can never truly master being a certain religion. There is always something to learn about God and His plan for you and the world. Sick of the news? Go out and help in a soup kitchen-for some, that’s something new. Feeling lonely? Read scripture and discover how God walks every day hand in hand with you. Think Mass is boring? Pick up a book about the traditions of the church and learn what every moment in the Mass means. No matter how old or young, you can shake yourself out of your reverie and find something new and incredible about God in His Infiniteness. Now how great is that?
