A review of a new multimedia package on the Catholic Mass.
Do you know what every segment of the Mass means? It's history? How it connects us to God? To Jesus? No? No problem! There's a new multimedia package out there which will explain it for you whether you want it via DVD or in pamphlet form.
Thy Kingdom Come has released The Catholic Mass…Revealed! in widescreen DVD with another featuring commentary, a soundtrack CD and pamphlet. At a cost of $34.99 it is worth it and a good gift for yourself or others.
The pamphlet is marked with the Nihil obstat and the Imprimatur, meaning that it is free from moral or doctrinal error.
Extraordinarily filmed with the beautiful spiritual images one sees during Mass, a narrator describes each detail of the Mass. The descriptions are in a conversational tone, read slowly so that one can soak in not only what is being said, but reflect on its meaning.
From the Processional to the Concluding Rites, each aspect is explained in a conversational tone. The vivid detailing and peaceful score draw the viewer in.
Topics within each section range from why the Gospels are read to why there’s a cross near the altar.
Separating each section is a quote from a saint or holy person, such as that from St. Augustine, “The angels surround the priest and help him celebrate the mass.”
Explanations reveal familiar but long forgotten facts and completely new ones. The history contained in The Catholic Mass…Revealed! helps one remember the early Christian church. One learns that some of the traditions present in the Mass are echoes from the Roman era while others reflect Christ’s actions during the last supper.
The Mass, every Mass is the reliving of Christmas, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.
The package also comes with a pamphlet of slightly less than 100 pages. It contains much of what the DVD does but allows for more reflection. Included in the pamphlet is an introduction section on how to prepare oneself for the Mass. The entire pamphlet is interspersed with still photos taken from the DVD.
The CD contains a beautiful selection of songs heard during Mass, including the Kyrie Eleison in Greek, the Ava Maria in Latin and Jesus Christ is Risen Today in English. It’s the perfect way to preserve the devotion felt during Mass or to prepare for a new Mass.
This is a first rate presentation with both familiar information and new. It will surely be enjoyed by cradle Catholics as well as new initiates.
