Make a Christmas tree ornament as a time-filler or Christmas craft at your holiday party.
Making ornaments as a Christmas craft in your classroom is always a big hit. Christmas crafts are a fun part of a holiday party and an entertaining time-filler for any class leading up to Christmas.
Plan at least one Christmas craft in your religious education class lesson plans this season.
Here are nine ideas for super easy Christmas ornament crafts for kids of all ages. They require minimal supplies and won’t make a big mess.
From the fronts of old Christmas cards, cut a circle. Starting at one edge of the circle, start cutting a spiral about ½-inch from the edge, continuing around the circle in one continuous cut, until you get to the center. Punch a hole in the center piece and tie a ribbon. Attach a short piece of wiry tinsel and twirl it around your pinkie finger for a top decoration. When held by the top, the circle will spiral down.
Remove the top from a clear Christmas tree ball ornament and pour in a very small amount (1/4-1/2 teaspoon) of two different colors of paint. Replace the top and move the bulb around to swirl the paint along the insides.
Using green florist wire or other craft wire, make a loop slightly larger than you want your wreath to be (10-12 inches). Thread small jingle bells onto the wire by pushing the wire through the top opening of the bell. Twist the ends together to close the loop and trim off excess. Tie a ribbon into a bow at the top.
From the fronts of old Christmas cards, cut a heart, a star and a teardrop ornament shape. Punch holes in the top and bottom and tie together in a vertical line with red or green ribbon. Hang from a ribbon at the top.
Paint pine cones with clear glitter paint. Attach a ribbon around the base, near the top.
Cut pipe cleaners, chenille sticks and metallic pipe cleaners into lengths of about 6 inches long. (A pretty snowflake is made from blue, silver and white pipe cleaners.) Holding them together in the center and fanning out the ends, twist and bend the centers to form a snowflake shape. Hang from a glittery silver ribbon.
Glue on two googly eyes and a red pom-pom for a nose onto the top of a candy cane. Twist a piece of brown pipe cleaner around the top and form into antlers. Hang from a ribbon.
Using Christmas cookie cutters, cut out red and green fun foam in shapes of Christmas trees, stars, angels, candy canes and other Christmas shapes. Draw decorations on the shapes with a glue pen and then sprinkle with glitter. Shake off the excess and you’ve got a glittery decorated ornament. Punch a hole in the top and tie on a ribbon for hanging.
Gather up all your old red and green fabric and cut it up into 1-inch squares, using pinking shears. Using the end of a child’s small paintbrush put the center of a fabric square onto the end of the paintbrush tip and push it down into the Styrofoam ball until it is embedded there and the ends of the fabric square are flared out. Remove the paintbrush and repeat with the other fabric squares until the Styrofoam ball is covered with fabric. Loop a piece of ribbon and push it into the top of the ball with a pin.
